Description
A wine that is once again all about balance, tension and focus. Wild strawberry and sour cherry lead the nose alongside the signature Indian spices, while hints of liquorice add a touch more earthiness to the palate. The tannins have a fresh, pomegranate skin texture, matched by a fresh line of acidity.
VINEYARDS
The ‘Cuvée Cinéma’ Pinot Noir is produced from fruit grown in a single vineyard – one of the highest in the Hemel-en-Aarde region. This region is characterised by a moderate climate which results in slower ripening and a later harvest. The soils are clay and shale in composition, which allows optimum fruit development while naturally restricting vigour and keeping crop levels low.
VINTAGE
The 2021 vintage was the latest Cape Vintage since 2014, with the drought broken and a cold, wet winter leading to later bud break and ripening. Fruit quality was excellent, with acidity levels higher than usual. With time, the wines are predicted to be elegant and charming, with lovely freshness and pure fruit flavours.
VINIFICATION
Cuvée Cinéma’ was fermented in stainless- steel tank with 60% of the fruit left as whole clusters and using only indigenous yeasts. The wine was then transferred to 228-litre French oak barrels (25% new), where it remained for 11 months before bottling.
