Ben’s notes – There is Pinot Noir from the Hemel en Aarde, then there is Pinot from Newton Johnson, then there is the Seadragon! This is a magical interpretation of Pinot Noir picked from a single block on a single day. Only the ripest bunches are used with a percentage pressed as whole bunch. Love Pinot? You have a once in a blue moon chance to buy a bottle. If it wasn’t against my belief of spreading the word about this wine, I would keep the lot!
Seadragon comes from a north-facing slope on clay and granite soils and is one of the New World’s best Pinot Noirs. Close to a Chambolle or Volnay in style, it’s pure, racy and perfumed, all summer berries and pot pourri, with remarkable minerality and palate length. Delicious. 96 points Tim Atkin MW
The farm’s oldest Pinot Noir block and richest-fruit wine. Vivid cherries, raspberries, violets, touch of lavender, house-style earthiness, 2017’s perfume beguiles. What follows is a perfect reflection in texture, succulent, sleekly curvaceous, ending savoury. Christine Rudman – Cape Wine Master.
This is a hard to find Pinot Noir from Newton Johnson. We have a very limited quantity so are restricting purchase to one bottle per order.
