Thistle & Weed – Duwweltjie Chenin Blanc 2020

Stephanie Wild and Etienne Terreblanche’s boutique operation is one of the most exciting Cape brands to emerge in the last five years. This very old-vine Paarl Chenin is structured, dense and waxy, with musk and apple flavours, very little oak but amazing purity 94/100 Tim Atkin MW

The Heritage bush vine vineyard, planted in 1961 is well-established in a duplex sand & clay soil. Careful canopy management and pruning ensures the crop is balanced, the vines are tended to and the longevity ensured

The grapes were delicately whole bunch pressed and fermented in older French oak barrels only the free run juice was used. The lees were stirred (battonage) for the first month, and allowed to mature on the lees for 10 months prior to bottling, unfixed and unfiltered

Tasting Note

Notes of Apricot, citrus peel and the signature dried pineapple on the nose. The Palate is light but densely layered with a generously creamy texture hung on pithy skeleton.
