Chalky and lightly spiced aroma then the fruit bursts in your mouth. Creamy ripe citrus, ripe apple, almost pineapple but not that exotic, and super-fresh. Chalky finish and impressive length. 17/20 Julia Harding MW
Yields were tiny here in 2018, with only 880 bottles produced from this two-hectare site. Planted in 1960 on what is a high-altitude site for Paarl, it’s a taut, laser-like Chenin Blanc with incredible focus and precision, oatmeal and citrus fruit, a hint of oak and a saline finish. 95/100 Tim Atkin MW 2020-28
From dryland bushvine grapes planted in 1960 against the mountains of the Paarl area. The vineyard is approx 2Ha but because of the age and years of neglect while the grapes were being delivered to coops, the yields are extremely low with 2017 yielding 2.4T.
They started nurturing the vineyards in 2016 with Lukas pruning and suckering each vine himself to assess the damage. Fermented and aged in 3rd fill French oak on the lees for about 10 months with no yeast or enzymes added in the winemaking process.
