Ben’s January 2020 Diary

January 2020

This trip to the Cape I am with my good friend Mick Smith of the Porthminster Beach Café in St Ives Cornwall.

We caught up Winnie Bowman, Fiona McDonald, Ken Forrester and others at a fab Chenin Party on the beach in Cape Town. It wasn’t all play though, we are on the hunt for some new and exciting wines to add to our list! Next job is cooking 5 courses in 40 degree heat for 45 people!

Lismore wines update

From Samantha O’Keefe:

To all of our loving and generous friends all over the world,

Having lost everything, no words can ever describe how we feel. However, the reality is that my staff and I made it out of the fire alive and my children and I are healthy and have each other. I am acutely aware of how blessed I am for this.

In these first days and weeks, I have struggled to have any words or an answer to all of your messages of love and concern. The enormity of it all is just too much.

Your generosity and support have been overwhelming at times. It has been so big and loud and strong. I know you all are willing us to rebuild and get on with it. Even when I felt like just falling down and crying, I was held upright by all of the strength you sent my way.

The South African wine industry, along with your support, is making sure a 2020 Lismore harvest is imminent. All of this love will be channelled into the wines I make this year.

I have such a gigantic mountain to climb, but I know that all of you are with me in this.

Thank you.

We wish you all a very happy new year.

Samantha (Keenan & Quinn).

We would love it if you could help by donating to this crowd funding page set up to help Sam and her family. Thank you!

Where it all began

Signal Hill, Cape Town January 2019 – the VinoSA journey begins. Our mission is to seek out the finest flavour of the Cape, from the big names to the independent winemakers and bring them to you. Each winemaker has their own interpretation of making wine from different varieties – from some of the best Chenin in the world to lesser known Palomino. From Big Cabernets to delicate Pinots.

Terroir, the sea and these magical personalities make some very special wines. So come taste the Cape with us.

New Wave Cape to Cape

In September, and following on from the spectacular New Wave Wine Tasting in London, 13 winemakers  came to Cornwall for The New Wave Cape to Cape event. We had a  superb weekend of wine education and fabulous food.

The Porthminster Beach Café hosted a superb dinner with 5 Chefs, 6 courses and 13 wines. The weather was brilliant for the public tasting with a Braii and over 80 wines to taste.

We are already planning next year’s event.
